This is an actual happening from a 'retired' friend in Texas . Yesterday I was at my local Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Bisquit, the Wonder Dog and was in the checkout line when woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had, an elephant? So since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's ass and a car hit us both.I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard.
Wal-Mart won't let me shop there anymore.Better watch what you ask retired people. They have all the time in the world to think of crazy things to say.

This is Sarah, our homestay student from Germany. She has been here 3 weeks, and is here until the end of January.
She is a sweet girl, and we are enjoying having her here.
Its funny having a teenager in the house, I feel like the phone is never free anymore, I am not used to any threat to my ohone time, it appears I have net my match!

First day of school. Ben os having fun, he was placed in a k/1 split class. Now he tells everyone he is grade 1.

This is what you will see Monday through Friday, Ben goes in, they close the door, and Brody wants in. So cute.

I was so tired, and it felt so great to be in by 9:30 tonight, and now, here I am wide awake after not even 4 hours. ARGH.

We picked up our home stay student today, her name is Sarah and she is 15 and from Germany. She was very tired tonight when we picked her up, and she basically had a bite to eat and went to bed.

It is going to be quite different this time around, obviously so different from the Asian culture we have been used to. She is here for 6 months.

I have been getting about 2 serving shifts a week at the pub, which is so great, as the money is way better than bartending, I really like it too.

We have had a nice string of bad luck things happen around here, lets see, at the beginning of summer our hot water tank blew, at the same time our furnace was making really weird lagging noises at start up. Our friends brother does these things for a living, and so when he replaced the water heater, he also shut down our furnace for the summer, and was going to come back in August to do an actual check of the furnace.
He was here a few days ago with his meter reading thing, and he turned on the furnace, and held his reader up to the vent, and slowly but steadily, the reading went from 1, to 10. At 10, his reader alarm goes off, as that is shut down the furnace mode. The carbon monoxide level hitting a 10, means he is legally required to shut the power off our furnace. (not that we would disagree).
He finally stopped his reader when it went to 12.
So, this means an $1800 to $2700 job.

Then, on Friday night, Fern was on his way home from work, and was almost home when he hit a raccoon with the car.
The animal accident ripped off the front grill, and much worse than that, cracked our radiator,
Unbelievable.

So if these things really do happen in 3's, we should be set for the next while.

Hard to believe tomorrow will be a school night.
Ben isn't really excited about starting kindergarten, I hope he will have fun, and make some good friends. Its going to be so strange to just have Brody everyday till noon. Liv will be going into grade 4. First year of intermediate.

Here's some funny's for Christina's benefit:

*Fern brought Ben and Brody to the pub to drop something off the other day, and we unloading things from the car, so I went to introduce the girl I was working with to the fam, I waved her over, and Ben quickly looks at me and says, "quick Mom - is my nose clean???".
He had a cold and was worried about having boogies showing when he met a pretty girl. He is such a little stud muffin.

*We went to a birthday party and Ben and went in the bathroom, where the toilet cover had one of those carpeted covers, and Ben says, " Okay, what is that hairy thing? That just freaks me RIGHT out."

One more Ben funny:

*the other night I put Brody to bed, and told Ben to get his teeth brushed, and hop into bed. He looks at me with the sweetest little eyes and instead of whining, says so politely, "Mom I want to stay up for a little while longer, and I'll tell you why... I like the feeling of getting to stay up a little longer than Brody, it makes me feel older."
I was so proud of him verbalizing his feelings so well, and told him so, and said he could stay up for like 15 minutes longer. 15 minutes later I tell him its time, and I guess he thought he would try his luck again, he says " Mom, can I please sleep in your bed? I like the feeling of..." so I cut him off and told him nice try, but that would only work once that night. lol.

He has been wanting this cut for a while. and today we went with it. Olivia has been wanting to cut her hair as well, and I always talk her out of it. Today I let her make her own choice, and she cut off about 6 inches.

I have been working about 4 shifts a week at the pub, and am strictly a 'bartender' now. How crazy, if someone would have said 2 months ago that this is what I would be doing, I would have laughed, and called them CRAZY with a capital C! Its true, of all the little jobs I have had, and there have been a few (barrista, retail, bookkeeper, sunday school teacher, slot attendant, housekeeper) this is by far the funnest one.
I am hoping to try my hand at serving, as that is where the money is. I had one shift, a day shift, on a slow day, and I liked it. Hopefully I will get more.

The late nights are ok, but the early mornings after the late nights are really hard. I am looking forward to summer where my mornings can be more relaxed without having to get Liv off to school.

Summer, I am trying to figure out what fun inexpensive things to do for the kids. Maybe a VBS? I dont know, the kids that go sometimes I think are the parents who want to ship there kids out for a bit. We'll see. I dont know about just randomly finding a church for that either.

Liv and Fern tested for their next belt level last Sunday. They did well.

I need to get outside and do yardwork. My weeds are competing with my long grass, and its a near tie.

Every year the school puts on an amazing carnival. The cake walk is my fave part. They have a cake competition, and then have a cake walk where you win cakes. I am the least artistic/creative person I have ever met, and we usually throw a wack load of suckers on top of it, this year I went on line and saw this, and I was so impressed at how it turned out!!
And no, we didnt win... but we had fun.

It has been a while since my last post. Great for keeping my readers hey? I was thinking how can I complain about people not updating their blogs (britny!) when I havent either.

So we took a family holiday up to South Fintry. Its 30 minutes out of Kelowna. Beautiful place. We went up with our friends and their kids. We had 4 adults and 5 kids staying in one cottage for 5 nights. It was great, the kids got along so well for being together in a smallish place.
We mostly hung out at the resort where they had a pool, mini gof course that was free, beach volleyball and a tennis court and playground. A perfect family getaway. We spent one day at lake okanagan, and another in Kelowna at a game center. It was great.

We celebrated Livs 9th birthday yesterday. How fast does it go?!?! We had a 7 girl sleepover, and then in the morning after a pancake beaky we went to my Moms place, and used the community pool, and firepit. What a great day for it! We usually end up with rain on her birthday but this was great.

Liv is a fish. She loves to swim. I was trying to catch the best shots, but it didnt always work out.

Just got in from my last class of level one pole dancing. It has been such a ride. I absolutey love going, and would recomend it. All of the girls registered for the next level, which starts next week.

In exciting news, I found my grade 6&7 bff, on facebook!! I have looked for her so many times, didnt know if she had a new married name or anything. She moved to Utah in grade 8 I think. Tommorow morning we have a phone date! I am beyond excited. She was like a kindred spirit.

I am looking forward to having Fern home for a few days again. He has been doing a 5 day stretch of nights, so I have hardly seen him.

I plan to get to the gym tommorow, although my arms are sooo sore.

Was at a ladies night fundraiser for cancer last night - had a blast. Hanging with friends and dancing, are like in my top 5 fun things to do. My Dad was sweet and babysat the kids for me, and he gave me a curfew of 1:00. I thought that was cute - whenever he babysits, the kids get so excited, he brings treats galore, pop, (which I dont let them drink) and they "party". Its so cute. I might just have the best Dad in the world.

Well, I am tired, and need to shower, and then off to bed.

Was such a nice time, we had our family dinner last night at Mom and Dads. The best turkey dinner ever. My Dad had games planned for the kids, with prizes to boot. They had such a fun time. The parents came and slept over here last night, so they could be here in the morning. Was nice.
The kids got spoiled, I did too. Fern suprised me with the camera I have been drooling over.

Jenn asked me today if I had looked back a year in photos, to see where I have come regarding my fitness goals. I hadn't. So, I did. I think its cool to see. It has been slow, so slow. I am down 28 lbs from a year ago, that sounds good right? I am also now a blue belt in karate. So here's to some progress, and here's to the next 30 lbs coming off... stay tuned. I guess I won't go and eat a second rice krispy square that Ben and I made today ;)

We just celebrated our 9Th wedding anniversary. I can't believe how fast the years are going by. My Mom offered to babysit, which was so kind. We went out for Greek, had dessert, and then walked around Walmart. Was so nice to be just the 2 of us.

Whats new lately...

Last night Olivia and I went to the Canadian Idol winners tour concert. It was so great. We had awesome seats, 4th row. I wasnt a big fan of JD Bixby while I watched the show, but he sure is an entertainer. The way he interacts with the audience was very cool. Carly Rae was great, her voice is absolutely amazing. Brian Melo rocked out the place. We were suprised to see Greg Nuefeld, he opened up, he was one of my faves on the show. We stood in line for 45 minutes waiting for the top 3 to sign their posters. Was a great night.

My daycare is almost up and running, so that is exciting. I am happy to be starting something that allows me to be home with the kids, and still bringing in an income.

Still looking to fill one more full time spot, so I will put that out there, if you hear of anyone looking...

Well, I had better hang this up so I dont burn dinner.

The kids had fun trick or treating, as usual :)

I had a sassy cat, a dragon and a chicken. Its so cute the excitement the kids have when they are looking through their loot. Ben had a perma smile, and Liv was busy sorting and ordering her treats.

I get so excited for them, since trick or treating was not allowed when I was growing up. I always felt like I missed out on that, as exciting as it was going to church partys and dressing up as Mary every year. (Insert sarcasm here).

Blogger isnt letting me post the picture of Ben, so that will have to do!

language arts

Brodys language is all of a sudden taking off, and it seems like every day he is attempting new words. About 80% of his vocab right now is gibberish, and its so funny because he will throw three words into it, and it sounds like a sentence.

He gets so excited when he sees trains, planes helicopters, and has caught onto saying "choo choo". Only problem is he says it for trains, as well as big trucks. While driving, if we pass a semi, he will shout out "CHOO CHOO!!!", and we'll say, "no Brody, truck."

So now he can say truck, only it sounds like 'TWACK".

So every single time we see a train or a truck, he yells out, so emphatically, "CHOO CHOO -TWACK!!!'.

Its one word, and he applies it to both.

I am still in shock, its soo drastic. We took him last week to trim his bangs, and screamed the whole time. So, she stopped, and we went back 3 days ago, to try to finish the cut. Well my sweet lil angel went ape, screaming, batting at the lady, turning away from her, it was awful. The worst part, we had to stop, and he had a mullet.So back we went yesterday, and we decided, or I should say Fern decided, that it was time to give him a cut like Ben's.It was all out WW3, but its done.All his beautiful hair is gone.Funny thing, I always thought he looked just like Liv, but now I see Ben in him.

The classic first day pic, normally taken outdoors, but this first day was an absolute monsoon. No ones first dayoutfit includes slickers, rainboots and umbrellas! She is happy to be back in school, mostly - and its nice to be back to a regular routine. She is in a 3/4 split this year.
Ben starts preschool next week, and I am so excited for him. We have him in a kinesthic based program, and I am optimistic that he will do well with this, being an active outlet through learning.
Olivia grades for her purple/blue belt next week, my girl, she has worked hard for this - August marked 2 years being in karate.
What else...
I am in the process of starting a home based daycare. I am looking forward to being finished with the process of getting liscensed. We have set up the entire basement for this, and it should be good.
Brody bear got his first real hair cut, quite short, its shocking to see, and basically had to stop because he was screaming and turning his head away from the hairdresser.
I think that is the official update.

I would just like to buy regular old fashioned jelly beans. I bought a bag, and with an exception being the black ones, they don't tatse the same.
Carly Rae Day. Was so fun taking the kids to see her at the park. Liv and I vote for her every Monday, and so it was neat to see and hear her live. Greg Neufeld was there, and sang that John Meyer song... ahh, it was so great!

Mom and I went to the Josh Groban concert, that was alot of fun. I will post some pictures.

Brody has, in one week, escaped from his playpen, his bugy and the high chair. Life as I know it, is over.

A lecturer when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked'How heavy is this glass of water?' If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm.

We have been living in our new pool, in all this heat. I am so glad we have it! The kids love, and I have been known to sneak out there once Brody is down for a nap, and lay on my new lounger with a magazine, and work on my tan. I like the angle of this picture.

Brody Bear loved it, I wasnt sure if he would. He kept trying to get my hands off him while I was holding him. Thats not going to work though :)

Nana came and played. The kids didnt give her 5 minutes of peace. Nothing like 2 wet kids jumping all over you.

Livs Dojo took a bunch of kids to Playland. We had soo much fun. The weather was soo nice. There was no lineups, so it was great.

Not much new other than that!

Nicci came down last week with her 3 kiddies, and it was nice to visit. They stayed here, so once the kids were all in bed, we got into our jammies, and ate junk-ish food. Olivia was in love with baby Joel. Well, actually I was too.
It will be nice when they move back here.

Mom/daughter trip to Victoria!

We really enjoyed going throught the Titanic exhibit at the museum. It was so amazing to see the real items that they pulled from the bottom of the ocean. Toothbrushes, shoes, dishes, clothing, dishes. It was really amazing, and I recomend the trip there to see it while it is in Victoria. They give a mock boarding pass, with the information of one of the treavellers on the real sailing, all the info, like whether or not they were first second or third class, and what there situation was. At the end, you read the wall to find out if that person survived or not. My lady was Mrs. Walter H. Corbett (Irene Colvin), she was 30 years old, was travelling second class, alone, and had been studying medicine in London. She was returning home to Utah, to be with her three children. She did not survive the trip.
We wern't allowed to take pictures in the exhibit. Bellini time at Milestones, on the Harbour.

At the Empress, it was so nice. We didn't stay there, but went in to view the lobby.

Hotel robes on, we headed down to the pool. We stayed at The Grand Pacific. It was beautiful.

Well, it took some work, but the new pool is up and running. The kiddies are happy to be in dont mind the weather lately.
I really enjoyed working on this project with my hubby. Was fun.

My man is 29 today. Hard to beileve how time flies. We went for lunch today, and I suprised him with a satelite radio for his car. He was so excited. Actually I am pretty into to, its cooler than I thought.
